Dr M Rahman Khasru is a renowned Associate Professor in the Musculoskeletal and Interventional Physiatry Division, Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He assumed this role on March 13, 2018, following his tenure as Assistant Professor at the same university from December 1, 2013, to March 12, 2018.
Dr Khasru's academic achievements are notable. He earned his MBBS from Mymensingh Medical College, affiliated with Dhaka University, in 2003. He further advanced his medical qualifications by obtaining an FCPS from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2010. Dr. Khasru's pursuit of specialization in rheumatology led him to the University of South Wales, UK, where he completed a PG-Diploma in Rheumatology in 2020 (with Distinction) and an MSc in Rheumatology in 2021 (with Merit). He is currently a PhD candidate at Manchester University, UK.
His specialized training includes hands-on experience in PRP and stem cell therapy, musculoskeletal ultrasound (both diagnostic and interventional), electro-diagnosis, botulinum toxin injection, and more. Dr Khasru's current research focuses on cutting-edge topics such as treatment response prediction for psoriatic arthritis, the use of autologous adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells in cartilage regeneration for knee osteoarthritis, and the impact of t-Booster on immunity.
Dr Khasru has contributed significantly to the field through numerous publications in international journals on systemic vasculitis, plantar fasciitis, knee osteoarthritis, chronic neuropathic pain, and rheumatoid arthritis quality of life assessment. His active participation in international conferences as a speaker highlights his commitment to the advancement of medical knowledge in physical and rehabilitation medicine.
Moreover, Dr Khasru is an active member of the academic community, serving as the Organizing Secretary of the Bangladesh Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the Bangladesh Society of Musculoskeletal Medicine. He is also a member of the International Society of Physical & Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM).
